No Deaths from Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids or Herbs
Poison Control Statistics Prove Supplements’ Safety

(OMNS, January 19, 2010) There was not even one death caused by a dietary supplement in 2008, according to the most recent information collected by the U.S. National Poison Data System. The new 174-page annual report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers, published in the journal Clinical Toxicology, shows zero deaths from multiple vitamins; zero deaths from any of the B vitamins; zero deaths from vitamins A, C, D, or E; and zero deaths from any other vitamin.

Additionally, there were no deaths whatsoever from any amino acid or herbal product. This means no deaths at all from blue cohosh, echinacea, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, kava kava, St. John’s wort , valerian, yohimbe, Asian medicines, ayurvedic medicines, or any other botanical. There were zero deaths from creatine, blue-green algae, glucosamine, chondroitin, melatonin, or any homeopathic remedies.

Furthermore, there were zero deaths in 2008 from any dietary mineral supplement. This means there were no fatalities from calcium, magnesium, chromium, zinc, colloidal silver, selenium, iron, or multimineral supplements. Two children died as a result of medical use of the antacid sodium bicarbonate. The other “Electrolyte and Mineral” category death was due to a man accidentally drinking sodium hydroxide, a highly toxic degreaser and drain-opener.

No man, woman or child died from nutritional supplements. Period.

61 poison centers provide coast-to-coast data for the U.S. National Poison Data System, which is then reviewed by 29 medical and clinical toxicologists. NPDS, the authors write, is “one of the few real-time national surveillance systems in existence, providing a model public health surveillance system for all types of exposures, public health event identification, resilience response and situational awareness tracking.”

Over half of the U.S. population takes daily nutritional supplements. Even if each of those people took only one single tablet daily, that makes 154,000,000 individual doses per day, for a total of over 56 billion doses annually. Since many persons take more than just one vitamin or mineral tablet, actual consumption is considerably higher, and the safety of nutritional supplements is all the more remarkable.

If nutritional supplements are allegedly so “dangerous,” as the FDA and news media so often claim, then where are the bodies?

Those who wonder if the media are biased against vitamins may consider this: how many television stations, newspapers, magazines, and medical journals have reported that no one dies from nutritional supplements?

Finding a multivitamin for women is not hard. Finding a whole food multivitamin for women takes a little research. Many times women are advised to take single isolated vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D or calcium supplements. I’m not going to tell you not to follow a doctors advice so if you are told to add certain vitamins or minerals then by all means use your own judgement.

Many women have reported back, including me, that after taking the whole food multivitamin from Whole Food Nation that their night sweats stopped so they could sleep through the night, finally. I tried all the standard vitamins for menopause and herbal menopause supplements such as black cohosh, dong quai, chaste tree berries, wild yam, liquorice root, sage and St John’s Wort. I gained a little results but nothing seemed to help for long.

I will talk about the difference in a whole food multi and the common mass marketed one a day multivitamin, Centrum multivitamin and the cheaper Equate multivitamin. The mass marketed women’s vitamins are synthetic and not going to add much if any health benefit. There have been many studies showing the harm that some vitamin supplements cause, these studies are done using the common women’s multivitamin made in a lab. These are synthetic vitamins that are chemicals. Our bodies cannot use the chemicals in the same way they will absorb and utilize the ingredients from a whole food sourced multivitamin.

I open the Purple Pops or Green Pops from Whole Food Nation and I smell spices not chemical vitamins smells. I don’t have dark yellow or almost orange urine because I’m not flushing the chemicals my body can’t use out through my kidneys. I don’t burp vitamins because mine don’t give me heartburn. I only take two capsules a day, a Purple Pop in the morning and a Green Pop at night.

The ingredients in the Purple Pops have a powerful blend of 77 ingredients including 26 fruits and spices, and 25 other ingredients that help the body create more energy. Berries rev up circulation and help the body fight off things that make it sick. Noni can activate the feel-good brain chemical serotonin and citrus fruits give muscles more energy and enhance cell production. In addition, cayenne, cinnamon and dulse, along with Vitamin B12 are known to boost metabolism, the body’s process of producing and storing energy.

The ingredients in the Green Pops have a blend of 23 vegetables and food herbs, and 29 other ingredients, many of which are known to have a soothing effect on the nervous system. The cruciferous vegetables help the body make good estrogen, preserving its energy. Sea Veggies detoxify the cells, and cilantro is especially known for ridding the body of heavy metals. Barley leaf and alfalfa leaf along with the sea veggies contribute an array of minerals that keep the body well tuned.

The ingredients in the Purple and Green Pops were selected primarily because of what research has shown they do for our bodies – make them feel good. While we have no idea what exactly Pop a Green™ or Pop a Purple™ might do for you, it is what a concentrated dose of good nutrition might do. The effects reported by consumers are as diverse as the ingredients.

Rice bran is an extraordinary superfood available in different forms. I prefer the powder form from Whole Food Nation. It has a wonderful sweet taste that quite often satisfies my sweet tooth. I use stabilized rice bran daily in my smoothies, in yogurt, on oatmeal and also eat it by the spoonful (chased with water) as a quick snack . I’ve used it almost everyday for two years.

The only ingredient in the Big B from Whole Food Nation is stabilized rice bran. Rice bran is one of the richest sources of B complex vitamins (see Supplement Facts).

* B vitamins are a natural source of energy.

* They help reduce stress and support your adrenals.

* They help sex drive and fertility.

Big B rice bran is a superfood and has natural sources of the following:

Essential amino acids

Essential fatty acids omega 6 and 3

Minerals calcium, magnesium and potassium

Super enzymes glutathione peroxidase, methionine reductase

Super oxide dismutase

Phytosterols including gamma oryzanol

Plus over 100 antioxidants

Common rice bran turns rancid very quickly. Stabilizing it allows the bran to stay fresh about a year or more after manufacturing and 60 days after opening. Big B rice bran is stabilized without chemicals or preservatives.

returns@musclemaster.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Northborough, MA – January 15, 2010 – MuscleMaster.com, Inc. (“MuscleMaster.com”) announced today that it is conducting a voluntary nationwide recall of all lots and expiration dates of the seventeen below listed dietary supplements sold between June 1, 2009 and November 17, 2009 (hereinafter “Recalled Products”).

FDA informed MuscleMaster.com that it believes that the Recalled Products contain ingredients that are steroids. Specifically, FDA advised MuscleMaster.com of its concern that the Recalled Products may contain the following ingredients that are currently classified, or the FDA believes should be classified, as steroids: “Superdrol,” “Madol,” “Tren,” “Androstenedione,” and/or “Turinabol.” While MuscleMaster.com cannot independently confirm the FDA’s concerns, that any one or more of the Recalled Products in fact contain these ingredients, MuscleMaster.com is undertaking this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution and in deference to FDA’s stated concerns.

Acute liver injury is known to be a possible harmful effect of using steroid-containing products. In addition, steroids may cause other serious long-term adverse health consequences in men, women, and children. These include shrinkage of the testes and male infertility, masculinization of women, breast enlargement in males, short stature in children, a higher predilection to misuse other drugs and alcohol, adverse effects on blood lipid levels, and increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.

MuscleMaster.com is recalling the following products:

Advanced Muscle Science Dienedrone, 60 caps
Advanced Muscle Science Liquidrone, 60 ml
Anabolic Formulation M1, 4AD, 60 caps
Anabolic Formulations 1, 4 AD, 60 caps
Anabolic Xtreme Hyperdrol X2
Anabolic Xtreme 3-AD, 90 caps
BCS Labs Testra-Flex, 90 caps
Competitive Edge Labs M-Drol, 90 Caps
Competitive Edge Labs P-Plex, 90 caps
Competitive Edge Labs X-Tren, 90 caps
4Ever Fit D-Drol, 60 caps
Gaspari Novedex XT 60 Caps
iForce 1,4 AD BOLD 200, 60 Caps
iForce MethaDROL, 90 caps
iForce Dymethazine, 60 caps
Monster Caps, 60 caps

MuscleMaster.com has not received any complaints of illness or injury regarding these products. FDA is concerned the products may present a safety risk to consumers who ingest them. MuscleMaster.com is an internet retailer and did not manufacture or formulate these products. MuscleMaster.com’s decision to implement this recall is not, and should not be construed as, an admission that their decision to sell these products was in violation of the law. In addition it is not, and should not be construed as, an admission that these products are not in compliance with the law. This recall is solely a reflection of MuscleMaster.com’s deference to the FDA’s stated concerns with these products.

Customers who have these products in their possession should stop using them immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to using one or more of the products.

Consumers should return any unused products purchased on the Company’s site to the Company. For instructions on how to return Recalled Products please call (1-800-240-4767) or e-mail (returns@musclemaster.com) the Company.

Any adverse events that may be related to the use of the Recalled Products should be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at www.fda.gov/MedWatch/report.htm], by phone [1-800-FDA-1088], or by returning the postage paid FDA form 3500 [which may be downloaded from www.fda.gov/MedWatch/getforms.htm] by mail [to MedWatch, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787] or fax [1-800-FDA- 0178].
There are so many supplements on the market so you really should know the facts about vitamins, especially the common synthetic ones. Herbs, vitamins and supplements have their place but will not replace or fix eating a poor diet. Supplements do just that, they supplement your diet and add a bit of health benefit if they are the right kind of vitamin or supplement.

Have you heard people laugh about Americans having the most expensive urine in the world? That’s because the vitamins most Americans take are synthetic, and 90% of synthetic vitamins pass through the body unabsorbed.

A synthetic vitamin or mineral is a laboratory simulation of a simple version of the real thing. In the plant, the vitamin/mineral lives with many other vitamins, minerals and nutrients – the “cofactors” the body needs to absorb and use it.

If the cofactors are missing, as they are in synthetic vitamins, the body steals them from its organs, bones, muscles and other tissue. That’s why taking synthetic vitamins/minerals over time can be harmful to your health. They deplete the body of other nutrients. For example, taking synthetic calcium regularly depletes the body of magnesium.

Multivitamins – blends of synthetic vitamins and minerals – don’t remedy this problem. The concentrations of the vitamins and minerals in the formulas are rarely those found naturally in the plant. And many of their cofactors are missing. Some haven’t even been discovered yet!

Synthetic vitamins are super-processed. They are usually manufactured at high temperatures and contain artificial or toxic ingredients, such as dyes, preservatives, coal tars, sugars, starch, and other additives. Kind of like paint or plastics.

Why would a manufacturer of health products do this? Aren’t they in business to help us improve our health? Well, marketing concerns often overtake nutritional goals. Extending shelf life, making products look or taste better, meeting machine requirements, and lowering manufacturing costs, usually take precedence over nutritional value. The resulting supplements become pretty useless to us. Some experts say that they might even be dangerous over time.

Source <A HREF="http://www.wholefoodmultivitamin.com/learn/_Staying_Alive_Press/44/1"target=_'blank' > Staying Alive Press.

3 Studies

#1. Study using synthetic beta carotene and Vitamin E halted. (reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, 1994) 29,000 male smokers were given synthetic beta carotene and synthetic Vitamin E. The study was stopped when rates of lung cancer, heart attacks and death increased.
#2. Birth defects increased for women on synthetic supplements (reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, 1995) 22,000 pregnant women were given synthetic Vitamin A. The study was halted because birth defects increased 400%.
#3. Men get thickened arteries on synthetic supplements (reported in Reuters Health, March, 2000). Men who took 500 mg of synthetic Vitamin C daily over 18 months showed signs of thickening of the arteries.

Dr. Zoltan P. Rona, M.D., says that while a healthy person will not drop dead immediately after ingesting synthetic supplements, “the long-term consequences of continuous, daily intakes are potentially dangerous.” Reactions include fatigue, memory loss, depression, insomnia and potential liver disorders.

The antioxidant alpha lipoic acid cannot actually be called a vitamin because it is made naturally in our bodies. It’s main functions is to clean up free radicals in our body and convert glucose into energy.

Outside the body, alpha lipoic acid is found in small amounts in some foods such as potatoes, carrots, beets, yams, kohlrabi and others. Red meat is among the rich sources of naturally-occurring alpha lipoic acid.

Alpha lipoic acid is named the “universal” antioxidant and has protective effects in the liver, kidney, and brain, and enhances the effects of metal-chelating agents.

It functions in both the fatty and watery regions of the cells.

Whole Food Nation put this super antioxidant in the Purple and Green Pops with the other 75 ingredients.

Lipoic acid may play a role in the prevention and/or treatment of the following medical conditions:

Lung cancer

Neurodegenerative diseases of childhood, particularly Leigh’s disease

Radiation injury

Alpha lipoic acid is required by numerous enzymes and is important for many cellular functions. In addition to its scavenging of free radicals, alpha lipoic acid boosts the availability of other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E. These properties may protect against cardiovascular disease.

Antioxidants, such as those found in alpha lipoic acid, have been beneficial in protecting the skin against UV radiation and pollution. As we age, our skin undergoes changes such as lines, wrinkles, pigment changes, skin growths, and precancerous lesions that can become cancerous. Factors that contribute to skin aging include poor nutrition, excess alcohol, environmental pollution, and especially UV radiation (sun).

Alpha-lipoic acid was able to protect retinal cells from damage induced the sun and by chemicals present in cigarette smoke. This antioxidant may help prevent retinal diseases like age-related macular degeneration. This nutrient is especially needed as we age and is reduced in people with compromised immune systems.

Battles over eating vegetables was a common thing in my family – until I found this vegetable vitamin or whole food multivitamin.

Kids don’t usually like veggies and my kid is no exception but it was my grown husband that caused the most battles. He seemed to be on a mission to never let any vegetable cross his lips. This made it hard to get our son to eat them and the battles got to be too much for all of us.
I started taking our son to the farmer’s markets with me so he could meet the farmers and learn where his food comes from. Luckily he has grown into eating some vegetables and will ask me to cook things like asparagus. Not so for his dad!

Sure you can try sneaky ways to hide veggies in other food but is it really worth it? I did all of this and it rarely worked. And no green veggie will even land on hubby’s plate.

I know how important vegetables are for health so I was not going to give up on hubby eating them. Studies are overwhelming in showing how a diet rich in vegetables prevent diseases, help with inflammation, are anti-aging and may even control existing health issues. Now how to get these wonderful natural healers in my hubby….

For people who don’t eat vegetables there is a bit of help with a green food vitamin or vegetable vitamins also called whole food multivitamins. These whole food vitamins are not the same as eating the veggie! There is no way I could eat 25 vegetable and herbs everyday. These are an additional benefit to any diet and gives your body the valuable nutrients from vegetables.

Not all whole food supplements are equal. Some have artificial food colors, sugar, preservatives, synthetic ingredients or fiber. Fiber is a healthy thing and we all need it but not in our vitamins. When fiber is added to our vitamins it takes valuable space from the veggies and other healthy ingredients you are paying for.

The green pops from Whole Food Nation are a vegetable sourced multivitamin. It’s not your run of the mill whole food multi. It has 77 ingredients in each capsule and no it isn’t the size of a horse pill. I swallow the capsule or open it and dump the contents on a salad or blend in a smoothie. They smell like spices not vitamins!

Add some good nutrition to your daily diet with a good whole food vegetable vitamin supplement.
